How The Appraisal Process Works

Review the Appraisal Provision
The policy’s appraisal clause sets the rules, requirements, and deadlines.

Each Side Names an Appraiser
Each party selects a qualified appraiser to evaluate the disputed loss.

The Appraisers Select an Umpire
A competent, impartial umpire is chosen in case the appraisers disagree.

Evaluation of the Loss
Inspection and review of estimates, scopes, photos, and documentation.

Disputed Items Are Resolved
Appraisers agree where they can; unresolved items go to the umpire.

The Appraisal Award
When two of the three agree on the amount of loss, a signed award resolves the dispute.
